On a perpetual quest for the next great meal

Op-Edible exists as the creative outlet of me - Julie Maibach Lacy - the source of all photos and content on this site. I reside in Berkeley, California and find inspiration in seasonal, sustainable and local foods at the peak of their season and the people who grow and prepare them. This site provides a vehicle for me to share some of my favorites with friends, family, visitors to the Bay Area, and fellow travelers. I am not a food critic. I only provide recommendations. Perhaps it's my salt of the earth Midwestern upbringing that instilled this guiding principle:

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." 

In 2018, after more than 20 years as an employment lawyer and HR executive, I pursued my interest in food and wine - visiting wineries in Spain, Portugal, Napa and Sonoma and deepening my wine knowledge by obtaining the following certifications:

  • Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Award in Wines - with Merit (2018)

  • Certified Sherry Wine Specialist, awarded by The House of Lustau; approved by the Regulatory Council of Sherry Wines Jerez-Xérès-Sherry (2018).
